Elementi Sotterranei is an
international graffiti and street-art festival, that began in 2006
and takes place every year in Gemona del Friuli, a town located in
north-eastern Italy.
This town was destroyed by a strong
earthquake in 1976, then rebuilt with massive concrete groutings.
Those gray walls inspired the "Bravi Ragazzi", a cultural,
non-profit association formed by young people.
The Association's aim is promoting the
graffiti-writing as a real form of art, enhancing its cultural,
social and landscape values.
The Association is also involved in
various social activities, and every year it gives the artists a
social theme on which to develop their works.
The theme for 2015 is "Energy",
intended in its all aspects; technology, consumption, personal/mental
energy etc.
Since 2006, more than 140 artists have
participated at Elementi Sotterranei, including international
graffiti-superstars such as Peeta, Belin, Macs, ECB, and many many
others.
Every year the citizens of Gemona
happily host the artists in their homes, with a unique spirit of
hospitality.
This year Elementi Sotterranei will
reach its 10th edition: 60 artists will decorate 2000
square metres of walls in the town. The festival offers a lot of
activities around the graffiti; meetings, workshops both for adults
and children as well as concerts.
Closing parties are on Friday, June 5th
and Saturday, June 6th, featuring General Levy, Raphael,
Fleck and many others.
To participate in all the activities is
free.
